What is the Million Memories website about?

A Million Memories is an exciting new fundraising campaign for the Alzheimer's Society. This project is a celebration of memories that allows people to share and preserve their memories whilst supporting those with memory loss. The Alzheimer's Society have launched A Million Memories website to capture a million of the nation's most precious memories online so that they can be treasured for generations to come.

Where will the money I donate go?

The Alzheimer's Society is committed to maintaining, improving and promoting its unique knowledge and understanding of dementia. The Society has expertise in information and education for carers and professionals. It provides helplines and support for carers, runs quality day and home care, funds medical and scientific research and gives financial help to families in need. It campaigns for improved health and social services and greater public understanding of all aspects of dementia.

What type of photo can I add?

Only JPEG photographs in a .jpg format are compatible with the website. Photos can be both landscape and portrait view.

When will my image and memory appear on the website?

Immediately

Why won't my photo upload?

The image you upload should be a JPEG (.jpg) image of no more than 500Kb (0.5Mb) in file size, if you are prompted to upload a smaller file then use your desktop imaging software to reduce the size of the file.

We recommend you resize the dimensions of your image to no more than 500 pixels wide; this should reduce the file size down to an acceptable limit.

If I don't have a photo can I still add a memory?

Yes, you just need to select an image from our collection to use instead.

Can I make a donation without adding a memory?

Yes, you can make a donation without adding a memory, just click on the Make a donation button that appears on the right hand side of the home page.

Can I add more than one memory?

Yes, we encourage you to add multiple memories. You can repeat Steps 1 to 4 as many times as you wish and then make a donation at the end to cover all of them.

Who are the million memory partners?

PhotoBox, the UK 's leading online photo service, are pleased to sponsor A Million Memories. Woman's Weekly are proud to be A Million Memories media partner.

How much of my donation will go to the charity?

For every donation made via www.millionmemories.org.uk a small percentage will cover the payment processing charges. Debit card donations are subject to a 35 pence flat payment processing fee, whilst credit cards are subject to a 1.88% fee plus a 10 pence flat fee.

How do I report a problem with the website?

If you find something is not working, please email webmaster@millionmemories.org.uk

  • Be polite and respectful when adding images or messages to the website, so as not to cause unnecessary offence to others. We're a community of many types of people, who all have the right to feel comfortable.
  • Let us know if you have seen an offensive image or message.
    Email webmaster@millionmemories.org.uk and let us know where you have found the image or message and why you have found it offensive, or use the reporting facility on each Memory page, below the Memory.
  • Gift Aid your donation
    (With Gift Aid, your sponsorship money could be worth a third more - at no extra cost to you. If you're a UK taxpayer simply tick the Gift Aid box and the Alzheimer's Society can claim 28 pence from the Inland Revenue for every £1 you give. To qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in UK income tax, capital gains tax or tax on interest from savings must at least equal the amount we will claim in the tax year. Please let us know if you move, or if you no longer pay enough tax to cover the money we claim back from the Inland Revenue.

Don't

  • Upload photos or copy that are not your own
    This includes other people's photographs and images or copy that you have collected from around the internet, as well as lyrics to songs, text from books, poems etc.
  • Use photos that do not belong to you without the owners' permission and respect the copyright of others.
    Please ask people who are in the photos you are uploading for their permission before you add them.
  • Use Million memories for Commercial Purposes
    Million memories is for personal use only. If you sell products or services or yourself through your memory entry, we will remove it from the website.
  • Be offensive
  • Use inappropriate images or text as this will lead to them being removed.
